Reimagining Dublin module for the MSc Urban Environment, UCD

From 2018 to 2024, A Playful City partnered with University College Dublin’s School of Geography to co-design and deliver the ‘Reimagining Dublin’ module for the MSc Urban Environment program. This 12-week, project-based module empowered postgraduate students to explore how play and participatory urbanism can drive human-centred, sustainable city design. Students engaged in real-world consultation and co-creation with community stakeholders to develop innovative proposals for reactivating underused public spaces in Dublin, gaining hands-on experience in inclusive engagement, collaboration, and spatial justice.

Recognised nationally and internationally for its community-engaged learning, the module was showcased by UCD at the 2021 Global Higher Education Conference at Harvard University as a leading example of civic education.

Running through 2024, the program equips future urban professionals with the skills and awareness to balance economic growth with equitable, liveable urban development.
