Skibbereen Town Centre First Plan
The Skibbereen Town Centre First Plan is a comprehensive initiative aimed at revitalizing Skibbereen, transforming it into a more viable, vibrant, and attractive town for residents and visitors alike. This plan, developed by Cunnane Stratton Reynolds Ltd, in collaboration with
Cork County Council and A Playful City as community engagement specialists, seeks to establish Skibbereen as a thriving service, social, cultural, and recreational hub for its local community.
A Playful City played a crucial role in the public consultation phase, gathering vital insights and feedback from the community regarding the draft Town Centre First plan. Key consultation activities included a public drop-in exhibition and a presentation of the draft plan, held at Skibbereen Town Hall. Over 110 community members attended this consultation event, providing valuable input that will inform the final document. Earlier engagement also involved an analysis of a Community Survey (conducted by Cork County Council) and a Walk and Talk workshop with key stakeholders and young people.
These activities helped shape a shared vision for Skibbereen, addressing themes such as Young People/Older People, Culture/Heritage, Business/Retail, Accessibility/Diversity/Inclusivity, Sports/Tourism, Community/Education, and Tidy Towns/Environment. The feedback gathered from all consultation activities directly informed the strategic objectives, projects, and action plan outlined in the Skibbereen Town Centre First Plan.
