The Rockfield Park: Play Outside the Playground
The Rockfield Park: Play Outside the Playground project embraced a community-driven approach to reimagining play in Rockfield Park, Artane. By engaging local residents, schools, and community groups, the project sought to create an accessible and stimulating environment that goes beyond traditional playgrounds. This collaborative effort focused on fostering creativity, social interaction, and inclusivity, ensuring the park meets the diverse needs of its users.
Guided by a Listen – Learn – Deliver methodology, the process included extensive community consultation, workshops, and prototyping to understand challenges like accessibility, safety, and limited play features. The resulting design guidelines emphasise “play beyond playgrounds,” improving key areas known as Play Pockets, enhancing safety, and integrating sustainability. This holistic approach, developed in partnership with Dublin City Council and local stakeholders, sets a long-term vision for a more vibrant, inclusive, and playful public space
